The K72000 Automatic Cleveland Open Cup Flash Point Tester provides quick and easy flash and fire point testing according to ASTM D92 and related specifications as well as customised tests.

Product Overview

The Automatic Cleveland Open Cup Flash Point Analyser is a new addition to the Koehler portfolio and offers automated flash and fire point testing in accordance with ASTM D92 procedures.

The instrument software runs on an integrated PC and coupled with the 10.4” touch screen interface means ease of use for the operators, with all operator parameters and results displayed on a single screen. Once the run is completed all data results are stored on the local hard drive.

An integrated Dual Fan System ensures quick cooling of the cup, ready for the next sample. In the event of a fire, the inbuilt fire suppression system floods the instrument with inert gas and the instrument also has an Emergency Safety Switch.

Included with the Automatic Cleveland Open Cup Flash Point Tester are a Test Cup, Igniter Assembly, and Integrated Flash Point Software. This all-in-one package makes it easy to get started with testing right away.

  • Temperature Range for testing is from ambient to 405°C
  • Flash Detection System is ionization 
  • The heating rate is in accordance with ASTM D92
  • Both the electric ignitor and the gas ignitor (if required) are on the sweep arm assembly. The ignition source is software selectable so no manual switching is required
  • There are several options for the Ignitor Sweep Frequency: D92 Procedures: 2ºC Intervals Quick Test Procedure: 5ºC Intervals Custom Test Procedures: 1ºC – 5ºC
  • The instrument has a two position mechanical lift arm system which is software controlled: Up – Down
  • The two position snuffer is also software controlled: Up – Down
  • The instrument has an automatic Barometric Pressure Transducer for Flash Temperature Correction
  • There are several interface ports: 1 x RS232: 2 x USB (Rear of Unit); 1 x Ethernet for easy data transfer and export to a LIMS system
  • The fire suppression system will flood the instrument with an inert gas in the event of a fire

Cup Flash Point Tester

The Automated Cleveland Flash Point tester is easy to use, with the in-built touchscreen and software. 

From the main screen, the operator simply chooses the method, and expected flash point (if known) and can enter a sample ID.

There is a results tab where all the stored results can be accessed, a settings tab and a calibration and maintenance tab. During the analysis, the below screen is displayed where the operator can view the sample temperature, the temperature of the heater and the rate of heating. The SWEEPS box indicates the number of times the ignitor has gone across the sample testing for a flash.

There is also a graph screen that can be viewed during the test.

The Automatic Cleveland Flash Point is a very easy-to-use instrument for reliable and precise flashpoint testing conforming to the below methods.

Conforms to the specifications of: ASTM D92; IP 36, 403; ISO 2592; AFNOR T60-118; EN 22592; DIN 51376

It can be used for flash and fire point testing of all petroleum products, except fuel oils and those having an open cup flash point below 79°C (175°F).

Product FAQ's

The Cleveland Open Cup Flash Point method is used for all petroleum products with flash points above 79ºC and below 400ºC, except fuel oils.

The Automatic Cleveland Open Cup Flash Point Analyser has integrated software with a touchscreen. The D92 method is already in the software so the analyst simply has to load the sample, enter the sample name and run the method

The instrument has an electric ignitor however gas can be used if required.  

The K72000 Automatic Cleveland Open Cup Flash Analyser has Fire suppression detection: It is equipped with an inert gas line for dispensing CO2 or Nitrogen gas when the emergency button is pressed or when the safety fire detection thermocouple detects a fire
