Advanced Materials Characterisation Workshop Brings Industry Experts Together in Dublin
18th March 2026
Showcasing the Best in Laboratory & Process Solutions
Dublin Analytical Instruments recently hosted two highly successful technical workshops at the National Yacht Club, Dún Laoghaire, bringing together scientists, engineers, and laboratory professionals from across Ireland to explore practical solutions in laboratory efficiency and materials characterisation.
The two-day event featured the Lab Automation & Throughput Workshop (11 March 2026) followed by the Advanced Materials Characterisation Workshop (12 March 2026). Both sessions focused on real-world applications of analytical technologies used in research, manufacturing, and product development.
Attendees had the opportunity to hear from industry specialists, explore advanced analytical instrumentation, and participate in hands-on demonstrations with application experts.
A Practical Approach to Laboratory Efficiency
The first day focused on improving laboratory productivity and analytical throughput through automation and advanced analytical techniques.
Presentations covered environmental parameter testing, continuous flow analysis, PFAS screening in wastewater, laboratory automation systems, and a comparison of elemental analysis techniques including AAS, XRF, ICP-OES and ICP-MS.
The sessions demonstrated how laboratories can streamline workflows, increase analytical throughput, and improve data reliability through automation and integrated instrumentation.

Hands-On Demonstrations
A key highlight of both days was the interactive demonstration sessions, where attendees could explore instrumentation and discuss their analytical challenges directly with technical specialists.
This hands-on element allowed participants to see real applications of technologies including:
- Particle size analysis and dynamic light scattering
• Thermal analysis techniques
• Electrochemical testing systems
• High-pressure reactor technology
• Ultrasonic processing equipment
These demonstrations provided valuable insight into how these tools can be integrated into laboratory workflows to support R&D and industrial manufacturing processes.
Industry Collaboration
The workshop also highlighted the strong collaboration between Dublin Analytical Instruments, SciMed, and leading global technology providers.
Instrumentation and expertise from companies including
This collaboration ensured attendees gained exposure to a wide range of analytical techniques and emerging technologies relevant to modern laboratories.
What Our Team Said
Conor Nolan, Technical Director at Dublin Analytical Instruments, added:
“Our goal was to create an event that focused on practical solutions rather than theory. The discussions throughout the day showed how important collaboration is when it comes to solving complex analytical problems.”
What Our Team Said
Paul Vanden Branden, Company Director at SciMed, commented:
“Events like this are incredibly valuable for bringing together scientists and engineers to discuss real analytical challenges. By combining technical presentations with practical demonstrations, we can help laboratories better understand which technologies are best suited to their applications.”
What Our Team Said
Colin McGarry, Director & Product Manager, said:
“It was fantastic to see such strong engagement from researchers and engineers across multiple industries. The interest in advanced materials analysis and automation clearly shows how rapidly laboratory technologies are evolving.”
